How did the first President Bush handle US-China foreign policy following the Tiananmen Square incident in Beijing?

Bush tried to play down with the incident alongside the Chinese government. The US had been very concerned not because of the suppression going on but rather they were concerned that the incident would cause a civil war amongst the people in China
