greater than -6 means -5,-4,-3,-2.........

less than 6 means ........3,4,5

Real number x lies between -6 and 6

If any x lies between two numbers then we use compound inequality

a<x<b

x lies between -6 and 6

so inequality becomes -6<x<6

Since x is greater than -6 and less than 6, we use the > and < signs. The bigger value (6) comes to the right of x and the smaller to the left.
