Who were the Cavaliers?

The name Cavaliers was used in an abusive manner by the Parliamentarians towards those people that were still loyal and supported King Charles I and also his son King Charles II during the time of Civil War. The cavaliers were mostly very wealthy males of that time. I hope the answer comes to your help.
