The Ford Pinto case demonstrated that it was cost-effective in the long run to allow purchasers to die.

The manufacturer of Ford Pinto knew of the flaws of the car. However, they decided not to correct said flaws because they would spend more in making the car safer than paying off car owners in the event of accidents occurring as a result of the known flaw.
