Simplifying 5x + 2y = 9 Solving 5x + 2y = 9 Solving for variable 'x'. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right. Add '-2y' to each side of the equation. 5x + 2y + -2y = 9 + -2y Combine like terms: 2y + -2y = 0 5x + 0 = 9 + -2y 5x = 9 + -2y Divide each side by '5'. x = 1.8 + -0.4y Simplifying x = 1.8 + -0.4y Hope i helped :)

-- Take each choice.

-- Write the first number in place of 'x'.
Write the second number in place of 'y'.

-- If the equation is true, then the choice is a solution of the equation.

(If this is really high school, then you're supposed to know this by now.)
