Why did so many Native American peoples adopt Christianity in Latin America during the 1500s?

They did it because they were forced to do it. The Spanish conquistadors would read a document that stated that from now on the country was Christian and ruled by the Spanish King, and they could not oppose. If they did, or if they simply didn't understand Spanish which was the language of the document, they would get killed. After a while they figured out that they would either start behaving like the Spaniards or they would get killed.
