You've been up on that diving board
Making sure that it's nice and straight.
You've made sure that it's not too slick.
You've made sure that it can stand the weight.
You've made sure that the spring is tight.
You've made sure that the cloth won't slip.
You've made sure that it bounces right,
And that you pr toes can get a grip-
And you've been up there since half past five
Doin' everything...but DIVE.

A theme of this poem is to take advantage of opportunities in the world and to avoid excuses and them getting in the way of you seizing these opportunities.  This theme fits the poem because the character in the poem is doing absolutely everything that they can and wasting a large amount of time making excuses, instead of just seizing the moment and taking a chance and diving.  Hope this helps!
