The Sahel is located on the African continent between the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea. Because of its long periods of scarcity of rain and semi-arid pasture, land desertification generates in this area.
The agriculture, overgrazing, overpopulation of marginal lands and soil erosion contribute to deep desertification in the region.
