An object is in motion when its relative position is changing. In other words, if the object's distance or orientation is changing when compared to a stationary object, or an object that is not moving, then the first object is moving.

For example, if you have a car parked in a parking lot and a truck passing by it, then, because the distance from the parked car to the truck is changing, the truck is in motion.

Hope this helps!
