It is -40°F on a cold night in the North Pole. When the sun is out the next day, it is -5°F. What is the difference in temperatures?

The difference is 35 degrees F.

since -40 and -5 are both negative, you can pretty much ignore the negatives. do 40-5, and you get 35. that's your answer.
