How does the involvement of the victim in the restorative justice process help the victim?

In the restorative justice process, the victim establishes a dialogue with the offender which should bring in theory better results than just simply punishing the offender. The victim accepts this and it becomes easier for him/her to accept that they have been victims of a crime.
