In 1948, President Harry S. Truman used an executive order to integrate the armed forces and stop segregation based on color. It was also known as executive order number 9981. This order was passed on 26th of July in the year 1948. The segregation based on color, religion, national origin or race would be stopped and equal opportunity provided to all.
