This discovery was made by Ampere. He further investigated the discovery made by Oersted. Ampere lead to the realization that two parallel wires that carry current exert a force upon each other. He further discovered that when the currents in two wires are in the same direction they are attracted to each other while when the currents are in the opposite directions they are attracted.
