Hurricane Katrina was the event that helped highlight the importance of making the conversion of the EMR to a national goal. EMR is an electronic Medical Record which is a shy away from the traditional handwritten documentation for the medical history of an individual. This became as a national goal because of the drastic damage that the said hurricane has brought to Americans.
