Despite the fact that Dollree Mapp broke an Ohio law prohibiting owning obscene material, the Supreme Court ruled in her favor because of the fact that the evidence obtained was done in an illegal manner and so the court ruled that the procedure of obtaining evidence was unconstitutional. This was the reason behind the court ruling in favor of Mapp.
