How did the treaty of Versailles trigger the May Fourth Movement?

China joined the war on the Allies side in hopes to gain back German land, but when the allies gave it to Japan, the Chinese were angry. Students gathered in Beijing and more and more people joined the cause which became known as the May Fourth Movement.
