What were similar between the two countries in their activities in the new world were their objectives. Both France and Spain wanted to amass wealth, power and territories in the New World. What set them apart was their treatment of the natives. The French befriended many of the Native American tribes and even married some of them. Spaniards destroyed many of the Native Americans religion and subjugated them by force.
