I think the excerpt that describes Montresors' deceptive and vengeful character is 'A huge human foot d'or, in a field azure; the foot crushes a serpent ramp ant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel.' because the first clause depicts the 'good image' of Montresors and then the succeeding clause talks about the vengeful character they hide beneath the good image.
