Enlightenment ideas were encouraging people to believe that a kind of natural law made everyone equal in God's eyes.
This meant that during the Great Awakening people thought a lot more about problems of universal salvation (the idea that being saved, or going to heaven, was possible for everyone rather than just for a select few).
It also meant that people questioned the power of the clergy (priests and ministers). Where people thought that everyone was equal, they were less likely to accept that power over church doctrine and religious ideas should belong strictly to members of the clergy.
