It is true that drive-reduction theory best describes the idea that a physiological need creates an aroused tension state, which motivates the organism to satisfy the need. The drive reduction theory is a type of motivational theory developed by the psychologist Clark Hull in 1943 and describes how biological needs or drives influence motivation. Hunger, thirst, need for warmth, are examples for drives. When a person’s drive emerges, he will be in a state of tension, which is unpleasent and the person will behave in such a way that this tension is reduced.
