We know that supplementary angles are angles that add up to 180.

Let x represent the smaller angle.

Let 4x - 5 represent the larger angle.

We know that the two angles need to equal 180. Therefore...

x + 4x - 5 = 180

Now, we can solve for x.

5x - 5 = 180

5x = 185

x = 37

Now we know x, we can plug that in to 4x - 5 to get the meassure of the larger angle.

4(37) - 5

143

Answer:

37 and 143

Supplementary angles add up to 180.

if one angle is X then the other angle (Y) is 4X+5.

we know that both angles should equal 180 (X + Y = 180)

so: X + 4X + 5 = 180

5X = 175

X = 35

Y = 145
