Lets call the number "x"
2/3x - 6=-10
Add 6 to both sides
+6 +6
2/3x=-4
Divide by 2/3 on both sides
-4 divided by 2/3 is
-8/3
x = -8/3 or -2 2/3
The number is -2 2/3.
