you have to cross multiply to get x on its own
1) Multiply everything by 2.4

`x= (3 X 2.4)/(8)`
2) Then simplify the fraction

`x= (7.2)/(8)`
3) You can either leave the answer as a fraction or you put it as a decimal
x=0.9

`(x)/(2.4) = (3)/(8)`

For proportions and to find x we have to cross multiply
8 × (x) = 3 × 2.4

8x = 7.2
Divide by 8 to isolate x


`(8x)/(8) = (7.2)/(8)`
8 and 8 cancels out

x = 0.9
