A lever is a long bar that can turn around a point, which is called a fulcrum. When the fulcrum is in the middle, you can put a heavy object on one end and push down on the other end to lift it. The closer the fulcrum is to the object that you are lifting, the easier it is to lift. If you've ever played on a seesaw (or teeter totter), then you've used a lever.
