Sugar Act was introduced by the British on their colonies in North America in 1764. It taxed sugar and increased efficiency of taxation on molasses. The act was introduced when the colonies were in economic depression and soon after the Seven Years War which also negatively affected colonies' economies (it was intended to cover the costs of the conflict). Sugar Act led to protests against British government and in the long term supported American Revolution.
