If the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is a part of the majority, s/he gets to write the majority opinion. However, Chief Justices does not always write the opinion. The Justice may agree who writes the draft. S/He will play a major role in drafting the opinion and may circulate the draft to the other Justices after s/he is satisfied with it.
