When are ionic bonds formed?

The Ionic bond occurs with formation of ions, which are by electrostatic attraction. Occurs between metal, which has a tendency to lose electrons, and a non-metal, which tends to receive electrons. An example of this type of link is sodium chloride (NaCl)
