The momentum of the car is probably very large before.When it crashes. the momentum changes suddenly in a short period of time.
Rate of change of momentum = Force

So, as the momentum changes in a very short period of time, the force exerted on the driver is very large.So, he gets injured

because the persons head is probably slammed into some part of the car and that means that the persons slammed on the brakes really hard so the person is probably injured
