WHY MINERAL OIL DISSOLVES IN HEXANE BUT NOT IN ETHANOL

The van der waals forces between non-polar molecules are very weak and such molecules can dissolve into each other. The h-bonding in ethanol is relatively strong and most non-polar molecules can't overcome those attractive forces.
