Did you notice that this shape looks like a parallelogram stacked on top of a rectangle? That's because it is! All you have to do is add the area of the parallelogram to the area of the rectangle, and you've got the total area. So, the area of a parallelogram is base * height, as you see there. For the parallelogram on top, the base is 7 cm, and the height is 5 cm. 7 cm * 5 cm = 35 sq cm. For the rectangle, the base is 11 cm and the height is 5 cm. 11 cm * 5 cm = 55 sq cm. 35 sq cm + 55 sq cm = 90 sq cm. That's the total area!

Answer: 90 cm^2

(Note: sq stands for square. When dealing with area, the units are always squared, because cm * cm = cm squared. You might also see it as cm^2.)
