What effect did perestroika have on th soviet system of government

It began a period of reforms in the Russian government. Under the leadership Mikhail Gorbachev, perestroika grew and this began to affect the economic, political and social structure of Russian society. This also led to the collapse of the Communism and the break-up of the Soviet Union.
