Why do conservationists oppose clear-cutting forests?

Because that would damage the ecosystem. If the forests are clear cutted, many animals would not have a place to live. Then, the plants would die because they need the trees and other items to live. If plants die, carnivores die. If carnivores die, the animals that eat the carnivores die. Then the population of animals would lower dramatically.
