How did John Winthrop change the government of Massachusetts?

John Winthrop is a wealthy attorney ( He got his wealth from his parents) that got elected to govern Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629.

John Winthrop is a highly religious man, to the point where he bring up religion into his government, Here are a few things that he did as a government :

- By Law, People have to go to the church
- Each congregation should control its own church and selects its own minister
- The Government raised taxes to support the church
