Pollution from a factory that produces cleaning products is an "externality." Externality refers to the benefit or disadvantage(or cost) that gives an effect to the non-participating group. For example, the pollution is what the factory is emitting that gives effects to the people not involved in making the output. These effects can either be bad or good.
