What helped end the Reconstruction period and ushered in the era of "Jim Crow"?

The assassination of Lincon was what ended the reconstruction period, leaving the freed black slaves to fend for themselves. Through the generations the Jim Crow laws were ushed in the South of America as a way of controlling what the blacks could and couldn't do
