Virginia company in Jamestown used African slaves as the main source of labor until 1619, when they requested more insight and influence on their laws. King James I disbanded the company in 1624 after war with Powhatan Indians in 1622 and some other crucial events. At that point Virginia became a royal colony, what in the end saved lives of many settlers.
