If you have 2 fractions, with the same denominator, the numerator can be compared to see which fraction has a greater absolute value.

For instance, you have 2/9 and 5/9. 5/9 would be greater than 2/9 because 5 is greater than 2. If you had 5/9 and 2/8 that would be a different story because it has a different denominator.
