If you have a rectangular picture frame, how do you find the area of just the frame, not the space in the middle?

Well not sure what you're getting onto because the area IS the space in the middle!

Or if you mean something else, you would find the area of the inside square and add that to the area of the thinner rectangle to get the area of the whole figure.

-- Find the area of the whole rectangle made by the
outer edge of the frame.

-- Find the area of the smaller rectangle made by the
inner edge of the frame ... that's the space in the middle.

-- Subtract.
