What were the effects of the Spanish trade policy in the Caribbean?

Spanish trade policy includes things like quotas and restrictions, that played an effect in the Caribbean because it controlled what it was going to be imported and exported, in the Caribbean there where goods that Europeans didn't know about, so that policy allowed trading but also disallowed other stuff and placed restrictions.
