If its 8z+3z=z
add like factors
so 8z=3z=11z
11z=z

8z+3z=z
First simplify and put all of the common variables together.
11z=z
10z=0
Divide by 10 on each side
z=0
Check your answer:
8(0)+3(0)=0
0=0
