A psychiatrist who studies mental illness as only a symptom of a physical disorder could most accurately be called a somatist. By definition somatist came from the term ‘soma’ which means ‘body’. The study only covers anything related to physical diseases as connected to the brain (e.g. Somatoform disorder).
