This was a joint invasion by British and American forces into French North Africa during World War II November 8, 1942.

This was in hopes to improve naval control for the Allies in that area by the Mediterranean Sea.

Answer:

Operation Torch's purpose was to regain control of North Africa, more specifically of west North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia)

Step-by-step explanation:

The Operation Torch consisted of the U.K. and the U.S invasion of western North Africa during World War II from November 8th through November 16th, 1942. At the time, the territory was occupied by the Vichy French Government, which was an authoritarian regime aligned with Nazi Germany, though it was believed that many of its people supported the Allies.
