Mariana’s teacher has asked her to determine the type of a sample of blood. After doing some tests, she has learned that the red blood cell of the sample has no antigens on it and that the plasma contains both A and B antibodies. What is the type of the blood sample?

Having no antigens is type O blood, which is what makes it a universal donor (It doesn't react violently with other blood types)

Ans. 'O' blood group.

Blood groups are classified on the basis of presence or absence of antigens and antibodies present in surface of RBCs (red blood cells). The blood type, which lacks both A and B antigens, but has both anti-A and anti-B antibodies represents 'O' blood group.

As sample red blood cell has no antigens, but contain antibodies A and B, the type of the blood sample is 'O.'
