what could the white settlers have done to reduce the number of battles that occurred during the Indian Wars

Instead of attempting mass genocide and religious conversions, they could have attempted to have signed peace treaties and keep their words, as well as coincide with the natives. They could have also have respected their traditions and adapted to new ones that could have helped them
