Two quantities are related, as shown in the table below:

x: y:
2 3
4 4
6 5
8 6

Which equation best represents the relationship?
y = 1/2x + 2
y = 1/2x + 1
y = x + 2
y = 2x + 1

The answer is A. To solve this equation I made a table like the one above. How to solve is to subtract a point from a different point on the table. (2,3) and (8,6) these are two points on the table to find the difference (any points will work in the table but must actually be connected. You are trying to find the slope y/x. (8-2 = 6) is to find the bottom of the fraction (x). (6-3 = 3) is to find the top (y). You have reached 3/6 which is simplified to 1/2, which is the slope of the equation. to find the rest you can use the slope to find what point the equation meets the origin. subtract 2 from the x side of the table to reach zero and subtract one from the y side this shows that the point is (0,2).

A. Y=1/2x + 2

Y=1/2 times 2 + 2 = 3
Y=1/2 times 4 + 2 = 4
Y=1/2 times 6 + 2 = 5
Y=1/2 times 8 + 2 = 6
