Bacterial infections can spread quickly if someone is immunodeficient or simply doesn't have immunity against that particular bacteria strain. How quickly a bacterial infection develops also depends on the bacteria itself. MRSA can develop quite quickly while the bacteria that causes leprosy can take much longer to develop.
