The immediate result of the mass starvation in Ireland in the late 1840s also known as the Great Famine in Ireland it caused mass death and emigration that dropped the population of Ireland by 25% and further strained relations of the Irish people with the British Crown and resulted in Irish Nationalism that can be seen still today.
