I believe the answer is B. Heroism and Patriotism.
Thoreau compares both armies in term what they fought for. He observed that on paper, the ants is way braver than the human army because they collectively fought for the survival of their colony.
Many humans on the other hand, fought for political reasons and money (proven by the amount of mercenaries in our war)
