Gene Locus. When a variant of the same gene locus occurs in a similar position (locus) on a sister chromatid, then you have alleles. When the alleles are similar the organism is referred to as homozygous while different alleles are termed as heterozygous. A gene map is formed when all the gene locus and alleles of a genome are mapped.
