Which sentence correctly uses the past perfect tense? Carl has packed three suitcases for his trip. Carl had asked his mother’s permission before he left town. Carl bought a ticket three weeks in advance. Carl will have lost his map by the end of the trip.

The option I'm leaning on most is probably B) Carl had asked his mother’s permission before he left town.

It has the correct past tenses and so on. The other options seem to have mistakes in them. Hope this helps!

The correct answer is B. Carl had asked his mother's permission before he left town.
Past perfect tense is formed by using HAD + past participle of a verb. So, the only sentence that has this scheme is B. A uses present perfect tense; C uses past simple tense; D uses future perfect tense.
